Things I’m Loving… The Vampire Diaries

This is one of those show I started watching as I love these types of shows. I just caught up with Season 3 and Season 4 is going to start soon.

I have also read a few of the books and the they differ to the TV show, for which I am glad. I prefer the way the show is going to where the books went.

It’s a bit go guilty pleasure. I like TV shows that are a bit of fun and take you out of the world for a while. I’m not a big fan of dramas, unless they are period dramas.

This isn’t my favourite and nothing can beat Buffy and Angel for me. They came out at the right time and age for me as I’m sure this has for other people. Saying that it does suck me in and I want to know what happens next at the end of each episode. It is one I can take breaks from too and then catch up on.

It intrigues me to see where the show is going as so many have ended or have been going for a long time.

I even have to admit I do not know who I would choose if I had the choice between Stefan and Damon ;)

What about you?

Adventures in Books… Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8

My favourite TV show of my teenage years was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I loved Buffy and her friends. I wanted to be her. I also loved Angel more than any other TV character in the world! I was extremely sad when Buffy ended in 2003 and then Angel ending in 2004.

I knew the comic books were coming out in 2007, but as I have never been a fan of comics I didn’t get any.

Then a couple of weeks ago I was googling and looking at apps for the iPad and found that I could download them – my inner geek jumped for joy!

So in the last 2 weeks I have bought 40 issues of the the comic and read the whole of season 8!

I really enjoyed it. I am the kind of person who imagines what happens to characters after shows end and as I lived Buffy and Angel for 8 years I spent a lot of time imagining.

The comics were able to go in very different directions from the TV show and took the mythical aspects of the world further. Some parts I got and some did go over my head, but I really enjoyed reading and looking at the comics. The iPad made it easy to read and zoom in on the illustrations to see the detail that has gone into creating the world on paper.

I will be getting Season 9 and Angel: After the Fall and Angel and Faith after this, but I need to stagger it to curb my spending. At a £1.49 an issue it got pricey to get Season 8, so I will need to take a break and budget for future splurges.

If you loved the TV show I think you will like the comics. It is really different from a book to read, but in a way more fun as the illustrations are fantastic and show the story in ways I wouldn’t have imagined it. It is also great  to be able to take characters further than the TV show allowed. For me it felt like going back in time for a bit each time I read an issue and I loved it.

Things I’m Loving… Chuck

I started watching Chuck way back in 2007. I remember flicking though the Tv channels looking for something to watch and stumbled on to this.

I’m so glad I did!

I love this show. It’s part Mission Impossible and part nerdy comedy. If I had read an episode summary beforehand I might have skipped it as it is not something I would have thought would work, but it did.

The characters are what make this show. Chuck, Sarah and Casey are a team thrown together and learn to make it work and become friends. The Buymore is a fantastic setting and every time I walk into a PC World I wonder what goes on behind the scenes!

The other characters make up the family. Friends that have come together over the course of 5 seasons and make me want to be part of it.

It’s funny and smart at the same time. There are always new twists and turns to keep you entertained. Somehow I doubt this is anything like real-life spying, but it makes it seems fun. It also lets the weirder characters develop and I really liked getting to know the recurring characters that weren’t the main focus of the show.

I have just finished the last season and I will miss this show. I’m not sure where it could have gone forward, but I would have liked to see it carry on. I don’t know how I liked the end though. It’s always hard when a show ends. I never know how I feel. I like that there is a finish to the story, but I always want to see more. My imagination often runs wild at the end of TV shows, movies and book series, wondering what would happen. Not to the point where I would write fan fiction, but in my head day dreaming :)

Anyone else catch this show? I totally have a crush on Zachary Levi and went to the cinema to see Tangled just to hear him sing :)

Things I’m Loving… Supernatural

Supernatural poster

Supernatural started way back in 2005 – I can’t quite believe it!

I started watching this as it was a similar show to Buffy and Angel, both of which had ended by 2004. This came out at a time I needed something to fill a void and it has been there ever since. I really can’t believe it’s heading into Season 8 this year. I can’t wait to see where it goes.

I have loved the different stories over the years. I like the X-files type investigations of each episode and the people they meet a long the way. It went a bit weird at one point and I wasn’t sure about the introduction of angels, but it worked. I love Castiel and hope he makes more appearances in the future as the dynamic between the three characters is entertaining.

I also like the Sam and Dean relationship. There have been multiple ups and downs, but in then end they are brothers and would do anything for each other.

This is a show I will see out to the end now as I’ve stuck with it for so long and I want to know what happens to the characters. I don’t know how many more seasons it can last, but I hope it takes a big bow at the end.

Anyone else share my love of the Winchester Brothers?

Things I’m Loving… Bones

This is one of my favourite TV shows! I’ve watched it every year since it began and it has just finished its 7th season and its still going strong :)

It’s based on the book series by Kathy Reichs, which I started reading before the TV show was being filmed.

I started watching it because Angel was in it :) but grew to love it in it’s own right.

There have been twists and turns a long the way, some good, some weird, but I love that the story is different from the books.

A recent episode basically turned the table on the TV?Books by getting Temperance to write books about a character called Kathy Reichs and then develop a film about it. I love those kind of inside episodes every now and then as a nod to the original work.

I am really liking writing these posts and just taking some time out to think about the things I am enjoying in llife, rather than letting the negatives get me down so much :)
