Triathlon Training

So I’ve started training for my triathlon. It’s 4 weeks away!

I feel a lot better this week than I did the last couple of weeks. I have gotten out on my bike and have almost done the distance required for the day. I’ve also done a few brick workouts, going from the bike to a run and gym/bike days. I feel I will now be able to complete the event, which is all I want to do!

My main worry the last week has been what to wear!

I’ve been looking online, but having no joy. So I took a chance this morning and headed over to a shop I’d been told about a while ago. However it was no longer that shop, but now a cycling/triathlon shop – Perfect!

I got there just after it opened and the guy (I wish I’d go his name) asked what I was looking for and I just decided to be honest and say what I was doing and what I was worried about. He took me round the shop and showed me different things and said to come back with my bike and they would show me how to change a tire if it goes out on the event. He was super nice and made me feel comfortable asking about things I am not sure about. No judgement, just encouragement for giving things a go. I feel so much better and a lot less worried than I did before. If you want a shop in Swindon for triathlon go to Origin Cycles!

I came away with something to wear too! A proper triathlon suit for less than £40! It fits perfectly and came with a sports bra (which I’m not going to wear as it’s not supportive enough for me for running).

I also got a new water bottle and trying some SIS electrolyte powders – the tropical was nice, and still have the lemon/lime to try :)

I also got a pair of triathlon shorts as they were on sale at £10. Though they would come in super handy for running or biking during the summer.

The lovely guy in the shop was also telling me some things that are nice to have, but will make a huge different – a race belt (need to get) and elastic laces! Haven’t put these on my trainers yet, but I’m guessing they will be great for the transition.

It does feel weird wearing a tri suit but I took it out for a test cycle today and loved it. I also thought I didn’t look hideous in it!20130413-192510.jpg

it does show every curve, but, it didn’t ride up, it supported all over and was comfortable! Win win win :) 20130413-192515.jpgSo based on today I am actually looking forward to doing this triathlon. It’s going to be hard, but I like a challenge and to push myself. Plus I’ve got my eye on a slightly longer one in September if this one goes well. Fingers crossed!

Things I’m Loving… 29 by 29 Update

I wanted to do an update on how I’m getting on with my 29 by 29 list this week

  1. Move into my own place - Set to complete this month!
  2. Adopt a cat
  3. Do a Super Sprint Triathlon - 400m swim, 20km bike, 2.5km run - Signing up to a couple of events with friends so this might change!
  4. Take part in running club events and volunteer to help when I can’t take part
  5. Do the Parkrun once a month and volunteer as a marshall - January done!
  6. Bake more bread
  7. Complete the CBT Journal for Dummies - Working my way through this!
  8. Read more classic books as part of my 2013 reading challenge - This might change to audio books, as I haven’t ‘read’ a book all month!
  9. Stick to my budget and save for holidays and house things - this is going okay, just need to spread spending out through month!
  10. Take a bike maintenance course
  11. Join a WW meeting and work towards goal - this might change to focus on using MFP
  12. Blog – maybe a redesign ;)  - This was forced when Wordpress was updated!
  13. Plan budget friendly trips
  14. Try acupuncture
  15. Keep working to create and maintain good mental health - My referral for intensive CBT came through in January!
  16. Join a coffee club
  17. Take part in the Masters galas and club championships - First one next week!
  18. Work out savings plan for trip to Japan
  19. Catch up on Greys Anatomy
  20. Get regular haircuts - Next one booked for March!
  21. Move forward with my life and make new friends
  22. Do my best at my new job - I am enough - Doing okay at this!
  23. Keep my commute healthy - Good most of the time!
  24. Listen to Harry Potter audiobooks - First book done!
  25. Get rid of stuff I no longer need when I move
  26. Use the mantra ‘F**k It’ - Trying to use when stressed!
  27. Take up pilates or yoga
  28. Create photo albums for all my trips
  29. Try two new recipes a month from my cook books - Doing this when in my own place!

I feel really good about my progress on this in only a month. I’m being flexible and know that I may have to change a couple of things. For example some of my friends want to do a local charity run and maybe a swim event and I would love to do things with people this year. Also my house had been delayed so I put off starting a few things until I move as I know it will be easier then. It feels good to have something to focus on and work towards that isn’t focused on losing weight or counting calories!

Things I’m Loving… Lush 9-5 Cleanser

I’ve added a new product to my skin care routine. I went into Lush a few weeks ago and was asking about their skim products as I wanted something that could balance my oily skin and my dry skin (usually form after swimming).

The girl I spoke to was really helpful and explained the product very well. I like its convenience. You spread it on your face (it can take make up off) and then take off excess with cotton pads. I usually wash my make up off first then use this instead of moisturiser. It leaves my skin feeling silky, but not oily or greasy.

I don’t know if it helping with my breakouts, but my skin feels much better. Using it at night is great as my skin still feeling amazing in the morning.

Things I’m Loving… The Script #3

I’ve been a fan of The Script for a few years and love their music. They realised a new album a couple of months a go, but I struggled to get into it right away. I’ve been listening to music I’ve owned for a while, rather than new stuff. But when I finally did get it in my car and listened to it properly I liked it a lot. Maybe not as much as their previous albums, but enough to include it in my Things I’m Loving posts and here are a few of my favourite lyrics!

Good Ol’ Days

Oh, we’ll remember this night when we’re old and gray
Cause in the future these will be the good ol’ days
Oh and we’re arm in arm as we sing away
In the future this will be the good ol’ days

Six Degrees of Separation

You’ve read the books,
You’ve watched the shows,
What’s the best way no one knows, yeah,
Meditate, get hypnotized.
Anything to take from your mind.
But it won’t, ohhhh ohhh
You’re doing all these things out of desperation,
Ohhh ohhh,
You’re going through six degrees of separation.

Kaleidoscope

Show me your fears, show me your scars,
I’ll take whatever’s left of your heart
Give me heaven, give me hell,
All the dreams you try to sell,
I want your fears, your hopes,
The whole kaleidoscope

Things I’m Loving… Empire

I love Empire Magazine! I love it even more since it’s available on the iPad and it’s interactive :)

I started reading Empire about 10 years ago. I think the first issue I bought was for the train back from London and had The Matrix on the front cover.

I then subscribed on and off for a good few years in between travelling and moving. I love reading the features and interviews, but as the internet got more and more popular for news I started to read the website more than the magazine for news. I then got picky about which magazines I actually purchased. Then the iPad edition came out and I subscribed again! I love being able to click through to the movie trailers or more photos that wouldn’t be possible in the magazine.

They also started a podcast. I have to be in the mood for listening to this as it is a lot of talk, but when I do listen it is fantastic. They talk about films coming out and have interviews from the stars. It’s also great to listen to the team talk as their humour and personalities come across even more this way than they do int he articles they write.

Spending time reading and watching movies is one of my relaxation activities. It is pure distraction from the real world. I may not agree with all the reviews, but I love to know what they think. Sometimes I don’t read the reviews until after I watched the film to be sure I don’t get any spoilers and also so I understand what they are talking about.

I think my dream job would be working for Empire, but I won’t be pursuing that dream ;)
