“Amid the chaos of war, the Shadowhunters must decide to fight with the vampires, werewolves and other Downworlders – or against them. Meanwhile, Jace and Clary have their own decision to make: should they pursue the love they know is forbidden?”
SPOILERS! If you haven’t read City of Bones or City of Ashes don’t read any further!
I enjoyed this book, but not as much as the first one. It has been building up to fight Valentine, but not knowing whether it would be possible because of the outcast nature of the characters. Not having the support from the Clave, but knowing evil was approaching.
I felt uncomfortable reading at times as Clary and Jace are supposed to be brother and sister, but want to be together and I wanted them to be. I hoped from the moment we found out that they were siblings that it would end up not being true but it was hard to shake being told it was true.
The majority of this book took part in the Shadow Hunter world, which was different and good to explore and get to know. I felt this book allowed us access to the different cultures more than the other books. It gave a better understanding for why things were how they were – more history.
This book also shocked me. Finding out Max had been killed was horrible and I was surprised. Even though there have been other deaths, there are always ones that shake you up and this was one of those. Maybe it’s just something I don’t consider – the killing of the innocent. It reminded me of the deaths of Hegwig and Dobby in Harry Potter.
I’m finding it hard to review books at the moment. It is something I want to get better at, but I currently feel I waffle and don’t really follow a structure or maybe review things I should. SO I plan on looking into how it’s done professionally and get some tips. It would be nice to have a set number of points to follow then do my waffling 🙂
