I have finished one of my 29 by 29 goals by listening to the last book of the Harry Potter series. I am going to miss l having these books to look forward to each month for my commute, but I can always listen again!
I always have mixed feeling about the last books in series. Don’t get me wrong I absolutely loved this book, but there is always a feeling of sadness and disappointment that this is the last one. I get the same with tv shows and movie series. They become my life for a time and I want to know what happens to the characters. I started reading these books when I was 15. That was 13 years ago, which is a long time to have been engrossed by a book, but it’s longer for the Lord of the Rings for me!
This is the climatic book. Every book has been building up to it and now you know you are going to find out everything. The loose ends will be tied up. The secrets won’t be secrets anymore. You finally understand what has happened and why. It’s great and terrible at the same time. This book is also dark. I had to wait 6 years from reading the first two or three books very close together then having to wait for each to be published. I think it would have been scarier if I’d have been younger. The danger is very real now as they have left the protection of the school to go in search of the things Voldemort doesn’t want finding, which is even more difficult when everyone is looking for you and there is a price on your head.
I love the character development in this book. Even though it’s the last one the characters developed and changed. Sticking together and abandoning each other through the course of a year. The relationship between the three main characters is amazing and something I would love to have. The trust and love is visible and that give me hope as the reader.
I love getting to the end of a story, but I always wish I knew what happened after. I don’t know if I really want to know, but I often day dream about it. I would be wary about another book set at a later time. I would be torn between wanting to love it and worrying it would be disappointing.
I will miss having Stephen Fry reading to me each month as well. I will have to look for other books he has read!
Overall a great end to a fantastic series and if you haven’t read these books, you should. If you’ve read, but not listened, I highly recommend giving these a go 🙂
