Adventures in Coffee… Costa Salted Caramel Latte

The next drink from this years Costa Christmas range is the Salted Caramel Latte!

I hadn’t heard of salted caramels until I visited Seattle and did the coffee tour in February and now they are everywhere. I’m not complaining as I quite like the flavour as long as the salt is properly balanced.

I enjoyed this drink, but it was more on the caramel side as I didn’t really get any hints of salt. The caramel sauce on top over powered the coffee and mixed with the cream was just a bit too much. If I were to get it again I would skip the cream and sauce.

In a way this tasted just like the Caramella drink they introduced in September, but in a latte version. Now thinking about it I am disappointed with this drink as it didn’t have a salt kick at all. What I have liked about the salted caramel chocolates I have tried is that there is a proper taste of salt at some point that complements the sweetness. This doesn’t have that at all so it shouldn’t really be called a Salted Caramel Latte, but just a caramel latte!

Wow this might be my first proper disappointed post on coffee, but I’m sure they will make it up to me with another one in the range 🙂

  1. I just tried this over the weekend and didn’t get the whipped cream, so didn’t even realise it came with caramel drizzle! Apparently if you ask for no whip they automatically think you don’t want any topping, rather than just wanting to avoid the synthetic whipped cream film in the coffee…
Anyway! My general feeling was the same, actually – I didn’t think it had much salted caramel flavour at all, and it was all rather disappointing…maybe next time I go to Costa I’ll get it again with caramel drizzle but still no whip. I’ll report back 🙂

    1. Yeah they do that, but Starbucks still give you the sauce. They put sauce on the Caramella without cream. Try the honeycomb hot chocolate as that is amazing!
