Over the weekend I went down to Poole on the South Coast for my last open water swim of 2012.
My parents have a place near there so we made a weekend of it. We were so lucky with the weather so it turned out to be a fantastic weekend.
On Friday we walked along the front to Bournemouth and found the giant deck chair.
On Saturday we took a trip to Brownsea Island, which is a local nature reserve owned by the National Trust in the middle of Poole Harbour. We met the peacocks who tried to steal my dad’s bacon gap 🙂
We also walked the whole way roudn the island and saw deer and red squirrels.
Then my 3km open water Swim was Sunday. It was cloudier than the rest of the weekend, but when it’s along the beach at Sandbanks with proper sand and lots of people it was a perfect morning.
It was a great feeling to have beaten my previous time by 2 minutes! This is what I’m working for. I like being able to get faster and stronger. I’m not sure if I’ll do 3km swims next year. I want to try a triathlon and I would like to do a longer swim and I now know booking a lot a swims a long time in advance was not a good idea. I will put more thought into the ones I want to do next year.
