I’ve mentioned in previous posts that I have started running again and am doing an online ladies only r5k course with the lovely Shauna and Julia at Up & Running.
We are technically 4 weeks in but I have fallen behind slightly. A week of being not motivated at all and then a week when work got in the way means I am currently a week behind schedule.
I am frustrated, but I am trying not to let it get me down and just focus on what I have been able to do and the next session. My goal after each session is to the do the next one. I’m not worried about the virtual 5k at the end, I am just focusing in right now.
It’s been hard. I had a lot of trouble with my ankle to begin with and that got me down. It’s now better, but I find it so hard to get motivated to run.
Shauna suggested going into robot mode and not thinking just doing. I’m good at that first thing in the morning, when I’m actually able to get myself up. But other times I over think it. Also everything else seems to get in the way – work, swimming, socialising, and me time – there is not enough time to do everything and something gets sacrificed.
I also know my depression has been pretty bad over the last month and get motivated to do anything is super hard.
But focusing on the good things!
I could run 1km from the first session
I can now run 2, 1kms in the same session
I like the skipping
I love the blog and forum – great support 🙂
I like the Runkeeper app
I like running without music
So yes it’s hard, but in the long run I know it will be worth it. I want to join the local running club and I know this will give me the confidence to go along once I can run 5k 🙂
