Last weekend I headed up to the Lake District. Originally I had planned to walk up Scafell Pike, but I was not feeling up to it as I have done no walking training in ages and didn’t want to be miserable all day, especially as I was only up there for 2 nights.
So instead we explored a few of the villages around where war staying.
The hostel was great. I was very impressed and would stay there again.
It could have had something to do with the lovely round windows, which felt like a hobbit hole 🙂
It was a lovely walk from the hostel to the village and as it was Jubilee weekend there were lots of flags all over the place!
Grassmere is famous for Gingerbread, so we made a special trip to pick some up from the tiny little shop in the village.
I’m not a fan of ginger, but tried it and it was okay. My friends loved it though!
We also wandered through Ambleside.
And through Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere. The down to the Lakes Aquarium.
This was probably not the best idea as I am swimming in Windermere in a couple of weeks and now I know what lie beneath!
But as long as all the fish are smily like this one I’ll be happy 🙂
I love the lakes and really enjoyed studying in Lancaster for my first degree with the lakes only half an hour away!
I’m back up in the Lake District in a couple of weeks for the Great North Swim and I hope it warms up a bit by then!
