Today I went snowshoeing for the first time and loved it!
I didn’t know what to expect, but it was just walking normally with these things attached to your boots. I could feel the extra weight to begin with, but then I got used to it pretty quickly because they stopped me sinking into the snow!
It was hard work though! I was surprised how hot and sweaty I got. I would love to be able to do it more often as I think I would really enjoy it as a form of winter fitness. unfortunately back hone does not get the right conditions. I think I would look a bit odd wandering along the high street with snow shoes on!
I think I preferred it to skiing. There was no pressure on the knees or ankles and you could stop easily and take in the views. Also once I got used to the grips there was no fear of sliding down the mountain. Also it helps we were in the bottom of the valley.
Overall I think I found it peaceful. We were in a valley away from the main road and even with the group of 10 of us, it was quiet and beautiful.
We also got to try some mushroom tea, from the mushrooms that grow on the trail.
We also got to meet some puppies of the sled dogs. So cute 🙂
