While I’m travelling I carrying on with book club. So yesterday I skyped in with my friends back home!
It was funny, not the best way to have a book club, but it at least allows a us to keep joining in even if we are away from home.
Last months book was One Day.
‘I can imagine you at forty,’ she said, a hint of malice in her voice. ‘I can picture it right now.’
He smiled without opening his eyes. ‘Go on then.’
15th July 1988. Emma and Dexter meet for the first time on the night of their graduation. Tomorrow they must go their separate ways.
So where will they be on this one day next year?
And the year after that? And every year that follows?
Twenty years, two people, ONE DAY. From the author of the massive bestseller STARTER FOR TEN.
I read it fairly quickly, but that could be as I am travelling and am already on my third book after a week!
I found it fairly easy to read. My main problem was that I didn’t like either of the characters. I thought Dexter was a horrible person and Emma was wasting her life. In a way I might have related as I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing and am currently where they are towards the start of the book. And I don’t want to end up like them.
I found it quite depressing really. Two people who bring out the best in each other took so long to get together and then have it taken away from them. Maybe it felt to real. I think that’s why I prefer fantasy books!
It was a good choice of book club and definitely isn’t one I would have picked myself. As that was the aim of the cub for me it was a winner in that sense.
The next book is one of mine – at last – Game of Thrones!
I’m not sure how it’s going to go down, as it is pure fantasy, but Kate also wanted to read it so 2 of us are happy
