The book club book for October was Before I Go To Sleep by S J Watson.
‘As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I’m still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me …’Memories define us.So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep?Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love – all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may only be telling you half the story.Welcome to Christine’s life.
It was a very different book than what I would normally read, but I enjoyed it. Everyone in the group finished reading this one, which was a great success.
It kept us reading and I think this was helped by the way it was written in a diary style. Although we all commented that it would take a us a long time to write as much detail as was written in the book and we would not remember conversations word for word as it was made out. However we conceded that it was a book and if there was less detail it would have been harder to follow and move the story along.
We all got a bit confused over the timeline of the story of Christine, but it did not distract too much. We liked the characters and liked that we did not guess twists too early.
The main thing that annoyed me was the ending, but I don’t want to spoil it so that is all I shall say.
It was a funny book club as one of our friends was on Skype to join us from university. It was great fun as the screen kept freezing on people in the middle of talking leaving us with some funny screen shots. It was great as it will mean I can Skype in when I got on my Canada Trip 🙂
Overall we all enjoyed it.
The next book is The Time Travellers Wife.
