“It is the sweltering summer of 1997, and Karen is a strait-laced, straight-A university student. When she meets the impossibly glamorous Biba, a bohemian orphan who lives in a crumbling old mansion in Highgate with her enigmatic brother Rex, she is soon drawn into their world — but something terrible is about to happen, and someone’s going to end up dead.”
This was August’s bookclub book and I just couldn’t get into it.
I didn’t like the characters within the first few chapters and s0 I had to stop reading for a while thinking I would start-up again and finish before the bookclub.
That day came and went and even after saying I would finish it in September it still remains unfinished on my Kindle.
Sometimes it’s not possible to finish a book and even though I hate doing it I had to give up on this one.
My friends in bookclub all finished it. They had mixed reviews but for the most part found it an interesting read.
As for me, I can’t even tell you what it was about! Sorry for the rubbish review, but I’m being honest and I totally agree that life is too short to read books you don’t like 🙂
