Adventures in Books… The Hunger Games Trilogy

I read this trilogy of books over 4 days!

I got completely sucked into the story and loved every minute of reading it. It helped that I was having a duvet weekend too.

I saw Caitlin over at Healthy Tipping Point talking about these books and I decided to give them a go. I got them on my Kindle as it was the cheapest option. I was sure I would like the subject matter, but I was proven wrong!

The Hunger Games

“Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. But Katniss has been close to death before—and survival, for her, is second nature. The Hunger Games is a searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present. Welcome to the deadliest reality TV show ever…”

This book was so good and a really new type of story for me to read. The idea of a post apocalyptic world, where some people live a rich futurist world and the majority are left in the past and poverty, is unnerving, but not completely unrealistic. The characters are great. I felt connected with them right from the beginning, which is another things that is rare, but usually means I am going to love the book. It was well written, but not complicated, another thing I like in books.

I don’t want to spoil the story for you, so I’ll just put the titles of the other two books in the trilogy here. Book Two is called Catching Fire and the final book is called Mockingjay. The ending was not what I expected, but it felt right (hope that doesn’t spoil anything).

I definitely recommend these books for an adventurous and exciting read!
